Ditto on the wastegate rod circlip. This happened to me once and you are literally driving without a turbo. Very easy fix too. All he has to do is go under the car (no need to remove splash guards or anything) and just reach up (make sure the car is cold or he'll burn himself) and put the rod back on the wastegate. Here is a pic from Quasi's page. Where it says "retaining clip" just put a teeth grabbing washer or the like to hold the rod to the actual wastegate on the turbo.

Also follow link to a picture of the washer that's worked well in the past for me.

This is all assuming that this is the problem, which I'm definitely leaning towards.
