well, I spoke too soon. The radio reverted to the "won't accept code" problem about a week after my repair, just as I was beginning a trip. That meant I got to drive from Washington to Boston and back (approx 1,100 miles) without ANY radio, music, traffic reports, weather forecasts, etc.
Also, I'm pretty sure that either the radio or CD/equalizer unit is responsible for a longtime battery drain problem.
I'm going to get back into them at some point, and will post results.
ps: on the bright side, during my long trip, because I had nothing to listen to, I concentrated on my DRIVING (fast -- did most of the trip at 80-85 mph). And the 9000 provided its usual sweet drive. I particularly like getting into the right-hand truck lane on uphill grades (which nobody uses, including trucks) and passing giant clots of slow-moving traffic before the lane disappears at the top of the hill. Gotta love that turbo.
