Oil is feed into the front of the block main passage from the oil pump housing via the timing cover. The passage out of the pump housing is the upper left ear in the housing near the center cap screw in the chain housing. The main block passage runs the length of the block with branch passages for the balance shafts bearings, head oil feed, main bearings, and piston cooling nozzles. Also there is also a small feed hole to the balance chain tensioner.
Why specific bearings fail first is subject to the fit and condition of the bearings, bearing load, oil distribution, deflection of parts etc. Bearing load may not be the same due to variations in combustion pressures, with one or 2 cylinders tending to detonate more than the others. Oil distribution in this engine should be fairly even and more than adequate for normal operation. Once one bearing goes, it is a big leak that reduces the oil pressure to other bearings.
I wouldn't get to concerned about which bearings failed, more to the point is why there was oil starvation and/or overload.
