By 1997, SAAB had sorted out most issues on the 9000. This changed when they redesigned the engine for the 9-5 and used looser piston rings, a finer mesh oil pickup screen, and a redesigned PCV system that they didn't get right until redone six times - this led to many 9-5s with sludge problems. I wouldn't worry about your 9000 if it has been maintained at all.
