vtsnaab,

1 - Is there a way to simply eliminate the seat memory controller part and have plain old electric seats WITHOUT changing the entire seat bottom assembly ?

from SAAB Service Manual, 3.2 Electrical Systems, page 293;

"The electrically adjustable front seat with memory is
only fitted in the driver's position and consists of:

* Two switches, one for manual seat adjustment
and one for storing the settings and recalling them
from the memory.

* Electronic control module

* Four electric motors with position sensors."

TO DISABLE MEMORY, UNPLUG 357J, SWITCH, MEMORY, ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT

2 - Confirmation that there is ONE memory controller for BOTH front seats that definitely lives under the driver's seat ? (DEFINITELY NOT ANSWERED)

READ THE ABOVE QUOTE FROM SAAB SERVICE MANUAL, 3.2.

==========================================================================

3 - Is there any way to get to the nasty thing without dismantling the seat ? (Uncertain, as both replies seem to require a certain amount of seat movement for their ideas to work...)

NO MAJOR SURGERY REQUIRED.

From SAAB Service Manual, 8.2, Interior Equipment, p.852-35;

"Removal

1. Place the seat in its highest position.

2. Pull away the control buttons and remove the
cover.

3. Uscrew the seat side panel (three screws).

4. Electrically operated seat with memory:
Pull apart the connector for the memory and
memory setting oerations. Let the switch re-
main on ht eseta side panel.

5. Pull the plastic ocfer forwards so it is released
from the rail. Unscrew the seatbelt from the
seat.

6. Push the seat forwards and remove the rear
nuts. Push the seat backwards and remove the
front screws.

7. Tip the seat backwards and pull apart the 2-pole
connectors. Relase the wiring harness and pull
apart the 8 poe connectors.

Important
Note the slack pull of the wiring harness on
electrically operated seats.

8. Lift out the seat."

TRY READING THESE CORRESPONDING ITEMS FIRST:

#1 - POSITION THE SEAT FORWARD ENOUGH TO ACCESS THE ENTIRE SIDE COVER.
#2 - USE A SCREWDRIVER SHAFT TO PRY OFF THE ADJUSTMENT KNOBS.
USE A THIN BLADE SCREWDRIVER TO POP THE ROUND PLASTIC COVER OFF.
#3 - USE A T-25 IN THE ROUND COVER SCREW.
USE A T-9 TORX BIT AT THE SEAT ADJUSTER SWITCH SCREW.
USE A T-9 TORX BIT AT THE SEAT-TRACK REAR OF THE SIDE COVER SCREW.
#4 - UNPLUG THE MEMORY CONNECTOR.
#5-8 DISREGARD THESE STEPS.
VERIFY SEAT ADJUSTMENTS.
REASSEMBLE IN REVERSE ORDER.

=========================================================================

NOTE:

BATTERY POWER is supplied from FUSE 25.
RUN POWER is supplied from FUSE 8, through FUSE 7.
(All three fuses are located in the interior Fuse Panel.)
GROUND is located at G14 under the left front seat, and,
GROUND is located at G24 under the right front seat.

Happy Trails!
