When I lived near Yellowstone, I would get great mileage whenever I was in "the park." Speed limits of 45 and little traffic (only in the autumn) meant great mileage. My EDU showed as high as 42 mgp on one trip, although it always was optimistic. Doing the math at the gas pump revealed that an indicated 32 mpg really meant that the car got about 29-30... about 7-10% off. Is your 35 mpg average the indicated average on the edu, or are you actually getting 35 mpg when you divide your distance by the amount of gas you've used? Of course, there are variations between cars, so the accuracy of every edu is going to be different.
I can get as much at 18 gallons in my car if I run it very low before filling up... at 35 mpg, you could go 630 miles on one tank. Is that what you're able to do? (I've never gone more than 528 miles on a single tank)
Cheers, and enjoy the drive...
