Hi Tom, either your compressor wheel is turning "freely" on the turbine wheel shaft's quill which I don't see very often or the turbine wheel shaft has broken in two, does the nut turn with the wheel? Usually the shaft will break just inside the turbine wheel where it's friction welded together. If the turbine wheel is still centered in it's housing and not moving in any direction the break is further towards the compressor end unless it is a loose compressor wheel. Remember that the real early Saab TD04HL-15T's have right hand threads so they loosen up where the later left hand thread ones don't come loose. You should remove your oil feed line especially when a turbo has had a serious failure. I don't replace them because we blast through them with our soda blasting machine then run a riffle brush all the way through from both ends and finally blow them out with high pressure air with a special carb cleaner. Your failure probably was an oil starvation problem but it's hard to say until you have the turbo dismantled. The self locking nuts you mentioned are not actually copper but have a copper like plating. I use a mcmaster.com part number 93795A230 distorted type self locking nut but most parts stores should have self locking 8mm x 1.25mm nuts for exhaust systems as well as a metric selection of sealing washers. Our import customers usually have them in WURTH products which should also have the nuts you need. Take care, Dave
