you should be able to tell a good car from a beater. Look it over thoroughly (have a Saab indy look at it) and get a rundown.

I couldn't get a service history on my '96 (bought at 90K) but I did email with with the Saab-head previous owner (he'd sold the car to the place he'd had it worked on) and talked extensively with the techs in that shop. Biased info, but I was dealing with honest people. And I could tell the car was good the moment I drove it.

Marvin's list is right, but know that some of this stuff may have to be done, but that none of it is a deal breaker. Most of it isn't expensive.

DI cassette: I did mine premptively. The one that was in the car lived as a spare and now fires the plugs in my daughter's '99 9-3SE.

Fuel pump: Mine died at 150K

Blower motor: did it premptively when the heater core was done.

Heater core: this went at about 110K

Head gasket: Still original at 171K

Crankshaft position sensor: original at 171K

My other daughter's '95 had nearly full service records at 138K and it needed a bunch of work--all deferred maintenance. Worked out OK in terms of dollars and it's been a good car. It's getting a heater core this month (166K). DI and fuel pump were done just before we bought it--around 130K.

So look it over and if it runs and feels right, negotiate and buy it, knowing you may have to spend some money.

These are the best Saabs ever made, and worth some effort if you find a good one.
