I am on my 5th clutch master cylinder! Yes, I know, most folks say don't rebuild the master--replace it. Well, over the last 100k miles (I'm 2nd owner), the first 2 times it went out I replaced with new. Each time I completely bled the system, slave independent of master, and each of the masters lasted less than 2 yrs. Then I rebuilt the master (part# 31257 from domestic site, no longer available--vendor tells me they used to make it but "having a hard time getting them anymore"). The rebuilt master lasted 4 years (much longer than the new ones did, for me). Master went out a couple weeks ago and couldn't find a rebuild kit in the states, but if you need a rebuild kit, you can get it from the U.K. (part# PFS901714).
Took them 2 weeks to deliver and cost me $25.78US shipped. Came in Scan-Tech bag with a sticker saying "40.1291 Lucas". My Saab master was a Lucas, and the rebuild was quick and easy--the actual install and bleeding is what took all the time. Used my half-gallon pressure sprayer with aftermarket tubing & reservoir cap to do the bleed. Tip: make sure reservoir is really full, as it seems air entrains in the clutch (vs. brake) side of things even if the reservoir is only slightly low. So my clutch pedal stayed on the floor even after reinstall until I bled it a 2nd time, getting the air out. Pedal was still a little spongy on test drive, but firmed up after a few shifts.
Hope this helps.
