FINALLY got the 97 CSE back together after the blown head gasket fiasco. I didn't drop the oil out of it until I was all done with the engine work and I must've gotten about a quart of water out of it before any oil came out. I also did all the coolant hoses minus a couple that felt solid, timing chain, serp belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley and the PS axle shaft that had a torn inner boot. Drove it about fifty mile this morning and it drives OK. It was kinda rough when it started this morning and I hope that goes away after I run it a bit. This engine still makes a racket when it's running and I'm not sure why. For this engine it seems normal. It's always been noisy. Wierd isn't it? This thing has been sitting so long it's still got the snows on it. Maybe I should leave them on? Time for a beer. On to the next project...swap the tranny out of the GMC K1500. What a rotten piece of crap. The gas tank strap rotted off and the tank almost fell out of the truck when moving it to the repair "stall" in the driveway and the brake line blew the first time I put my foot on the brake pedal.
