When the first generation DI cassettes started to fail on the 91-92 9000, they started to misfire during full throttle acceleration and turbo boost, that can be pretty dramatic and some might feel it like a over boost cut off. It was a dead give away of failing coils when that happened (as long as plugs were ok will say).
In those cases it was usually that the individual coil had cracked and the oil leaked out over heating the coil.
Back then, Saab actually discourage replacing the whole cassette but to only replace the failing coil on the TK1.1 version.
Funny how corporate guide lines changes quickly because with the introduction of the TK3.2 cassette, everything was glued down in epoxy and the coils set for life.
