Good news is an obd2 reader will work (or just go to autozone and have them read it).
Sounds like your idle bypass valve is stuck closed. It lets air from one side of the throttle butterfly to the other, and is controlled by the ECU.
Its kind of a hassle to get at - you'd probably want to pull the intake boot off the TB, as the IAC is between the throttle body and the head. You loosen the hose clamps at the TB, pop the hoses, then its got a pin that sits in a rubber mount - the iac just slides off.
Once out of the car, you can see if its plugged. If you hit it with 12V (not sure on polarity - find a wiring diagram) accross the terminals, the valve should cycle open.
You might be able to spray intake cleaner into it to clean it up enough to get it back in operation.
