First of all, I want to say that I hope this post helps a fellow SAABer looking for good handling and better resistance to crosswinds as well as getting rid of that floaty, vague handling that seems to plague some 9k drivers regardless of new shocks, lowering springs etc. I wonder how many SAABs are running around with worn rear anti-sway bushings?!? That's right, REAR ANTI-SWAY BUSHINGS!. A 15-minute job (if even that long) that will vastly improve the handling of your 9k. My original bushings (probably factory original) were worn and I knew this for a long time, but I didn't think they'd make too much of a difference. I was wrong. They had about a couple of millimeters of play. Anyway, to make a long story short, my car ('96 Aero) now handles like a go-kart and I am not kidding. Funny thing is, my fronts need changing too (as well as the end link bushings) but I'm almost afraid to do that for fear of losing my new found go-kart (hehe). Even passengers comment on how excellent it handles, and no, I haven't told them. I wanted some confirmation that it wasn't my imagination. Though I have Scantech bushings installed now, I plan to either put OEM's on or maybe go poly. BTW, I did this about 3 months ago and noticed the (Scantech) bushings now have about .5 mm play in them (they fit perfectly snug when installed) and though I notice a slight loss in handling, the car still handles surefooted. It really won't hurt to try a set of new bushings, Scantech, OEM, poly.
Happy SAABing!
