Does the compressor delete place undue stress on the water pump and alternator bearings? I've read stories about the water pump failing quicker than normal.
At an angle of less than 90 degrees (water pump to compressor) the belt isn't exerting nearly all its force on the pulley, meaning less wear on the bearings. Therefore, an angle of 120 or so, from water pump to alternator, would place the entire force of the belt on those bearings, which they may not be designed to take, resulting in reduced accessory life. Right? Or are they over-engineered like the rest of the car?
Are there any significant performance or mpg gains from a compressor delete? I've always wondered about pulley drag at higher RPMs.
