I'm on my 2.0l '87 9kT, but I think the 2.3L is a longer stroke engine with the same bore size and spacing, so no reason to think it's not comparable. It has also received frequent coolant changes, and I take it easy until the engine has warmed up (though after that I'm certainly happy to open it up). I've also had a 9k with 109k that needed a head gasket, but had had spotty maintenance, so go figure.
