I drive a beater Volvo station wagon for work and have it only high for the legal liability part and nothing for the car itself except uninsured collision which covers up to $4500.00 I think.

My believe is that if you have an older car that is nothing fancy as far as classic/collector status but it is in really good condition for your needs and taste. The insurance company don't really care about that but if something like that would happen, they come out and classifies it as a old car with lots of miles and pay by that and then it is up to you to fight and show comparable figures to get more.

If the car is in fact a gem, it is always extra insurances to buy where you have an inspector look over the car and you come up with a value but I think those insurances are really high to what you get.
