Saw on the quasi motor's site tranny chart a ? listed for model year 1990 and dug up this old post askng the same question.
It seems to me that the 91-93 transmissions had a different number of splines on the input shaft, and an extra bolt hole on the bell housing to mount to the engine. The clutch and pressure plate were larger on the 2.3L turbo cars over the 2L turbo cars, so you might have to swap out your current clutch assembly. The final drive ratio on the 91 and 92 turbo's were the same as the earlier cars, but 93 has a lower final drive ratio that matches the 94-98 cars. The inner driver is larger on the 91-93 transmission, but you could move the smaller inner drivers form your current transmission to the later model.
So I need to look for a used 89-91 5-speed? Which doesnt look good.. How many used trannys in decent shape do you think from those years that are out there. Probably better off going the Erikkson route but was trying to keep this as cheap as possible otherwise I might move onto a 9-5.
