A tire's rim width range identifies the narrowest to the widest rim widths that the tire is designed to fit. If you look at most 225/50/16 tires, the rim width range is 6-8". I agree that ideally you'd want to be in the middle of that, so although it could go on a 6" rim, it would make more sense to get a narrower tire for that rim. A 6.5" rim, however, is in that middle range. I don't know why you're grouping 6" and 6.5" rims together and stating they both have the same maximum tire width limit; it makes no sense.
