I have been experiancing an issue with what I thought was my BPC valve. The car ('93 Aero) will surge with power when the engine is under heavy load. For example, 4th gear accelerating from 45 to 70 up a hill I get a 2 steps forward, 1 step back behavior that is reflected directly by the turbo guage on the dash. The needle will climb up the gauge and give strong power then back off (needle drop) then power again. This happens relatively quickly but is noticeable even from the back seat when my dad was driving... I suspected a bad BPC so I tested it and I get correct readings on both sides (3 ohms) and I can hear the valve clicking back and forth when I jump it with a 9v (read in a previous BB)
Does this mean my BPC valve is "ok" and to start looking elsewhere? I have recently replaced all vac line except the one going into the dash (seems like a PITA but might prove relevant). This is another suspect area as the visible part of that vac line looks very dry and brittle (possibly cracked)
The car had a full tune up about 10k miles ago with correct plugs, new air filter, injector cleaner and fuel filter.
I have been running 91 octane gas as opposed to 93 which doesnt seem to get as good mpgs as the 91.
Any of this add up?
Could a faulty FPR cause these symptoms?
Should I try to find a "good" used BPC just to try? I certainly don't need to spend $200 on a new one to realize that its not the problem...
Oh, DI casset was replaced recently as well with a used unit. No other issues at the moment... Car starts and runs great otherwise and I have been averaging around 27 mpg under mixed driving.
Also, the car has TCS but it is functioning properly at the moment
