well, turbo is far from the only source of oil other than a head gasket, but it is a common one...
You won't see wet oil on the exhaust turbine because it gets too hot for the oil to remain, and there's a heat shield between the turbine and the seal. This doesn't mean it's not leaking. Turbo exhaust seal failures begin as light smoking *at idle only* and progressively worsens to blue smoke whenever it's hot.
You will see oil in the compressor side under normal conditions. If the oil present on the compressor side is excessive, you still need to determine if it's coming from the turbo or not.
A Compressor seal is a very uncommon failure compared to exhaust seal failure IMHO. Much more likely a bad PCV valve is causing crankcase pressurization, which can push more oil than normal through the PCV system into the intake.
Then onto the downright uncommon issues, like a bad valve stem seal.
