Guys, I've been doing some trouble-shooting on my AC system. The final bug that I'm trying to work out is the inability to select which vent the air comes out of. Since I bought the car 50k miles ago, the air has only come out of the defrost (dashtop) vents.
I took the blower motor and heater core out last week to fix a clogged evaporator drain. I looked around for a servo or actuator arm in the engine compartment, but couldn't find anything. The only actuator arm is one that turns the air hot/cold.
So today I tore into the dashboard from the passengers compartment. I can see the drum that directs air to different vents, and actually it is freely movable when I push it with a screwdriver. If it were attached to a servo, it wouldn't move like that. So my theory is that the linkage has somehow come of off the drum or the servo.
So my question is this: where the heck is the servo motor and actuator arm for the drum? I've looked everywhere, from both side (dashboard and engine compartment) and I still can't see it. Do I need to remove the drum from the car? That looks like a huge pain in the ass.
I made a youtube video that shows what I removed, link below.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
Rob
