trick for putting in valve cover gasket?

I put a new one in yesterday and then started the engine... oil pouring out. Turns out the gasket wasnt in right and it got pinched when I tightened it down. Had to order a new one, won't be driving for a few days. What can we use to hold the gasket in while we turn the cover upside down?
