That was the problem for me. The switch can be taken apart and the contacts cleaned. I also had to bend the contact slighly to increase the pressure on the mating contacts. I remember that the wiper switch body separates oddly. By that, I mean that the two body halves pull apart sideways, rather than just prying off the back. You will have to operate the arm while it is appart to figure out which contact to clean.
