A trailer big enough to hold all your stuff--and the car will be full, too-- will be a 5 X 8 or 5 x 10 trailers.
The 5 x 8 weighs 900 pounds empty has a capacity of 1800 lbs. So you're at 2700 pounds. The 5 x 10 can take about the same but may fit your stuff better. Both are within the hauling capacity of the car, but cross-country is a long haul (did it last year, but trailer-less).
I'd worry about the trans/and as Derf notes, the differential. I haul 2000 to 3000 pounds a couple times a year, but never for a long distance. The Rockies could be tough. Brakes, tranny, cooling system, everything will be under a lot more stress. And trust me, you don't want to be hunting for a Saab repair shop out there in the flyover states. Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.
I'd look at the PODS option as someone else suggested. A trailer will run $750 to a grand. Plus a lot of wear on your car.
