scraping noise when turning right

I have a scraping noise that seems to get louder when I turn right and get quiter or go away all together when I turn left... Going straight it is only heard on occasion. I thought it was brakes but Im not sure.
I have read posts of peoples disc shield rubbing or something getting lodged up in there so Im going to try and jack up the car tomorrow and check that out.
Is there anything else I should look to for a noise such as this?
If it is the brake sheild would I just try to pry it away from the disc to create more clearance?
Thanks for any suggestions
