Fuel sender calibration.

Apparently the fuel sender float rod got bent when the fuel pump was recently changed twice (first new pump was DOA). Now the fuel gage reads full when it should be about 3/4 and indicates about 1/4 tank high till empty. Is there any info on the proper shape of the float rod or how the sender should be calibrated? Like, how far below the bottom of the fuel pump canister should the float hang? Or where should the float be when the low fuel light comes on? Or should the sender resistance be 68 Ohms when the bottom of the float is level with the bottom of the canister?
Any info would be appreciated.
