weird blower motor behaviour / how to remove fan blades Posted by TML [Email] (#2212) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TML) on Wed, 31 Aug 2011 13:58:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Two different topics in one post.
1. How did you remove the fan blades from your blower motor? I tried first tapping it out with a punch and hammer. This led nowhere. I tried heating it up and repeating. This also led nowhere. I eventually got it out by successively drilling out the motor shaft until it was virtually gone (9/64" drill size), to the point that the shaft actually broke. Even then, minimal amount of metal left inside the hole in the fan blades was difficult to remove using a punch. Maybe a hydraulic press would have worked, but I suspect the fan blade assembly would have broken long before the shaft got pressed out.
2. My other 9000 has started showing signs the blower motor needs replacing as well. When I go around corners, the motor makes a weird sound, like it's struggling to spin, and the fan rpm does slow down. When driving straight ahead, all is well. Bad bearings that start binding when subjected to sideways g-forces?
