"Stumble" under load while accelerating in '95 9000CS

Hi,
My family has a 1995 9000CS (LPT) with about 160k on it. It has recently developed an issue where, while accelerating, typically around 2000 RPM and in fourth gear thus far, it seems to "stumble" -- you might also call it a hiccup or hesitation. The car seems to lose power (or stop firing) instantaneously and for just a split second, then resume.
If you let off the gas a bit, it stops, but if you don't, it continues to stumble every few seconds (we have never held out long enough for more than 2-3 incidents). Under "normal" driving, even while accelerating strongly in lower gears, the car runs smoothly. Turbo boost seems to be "as typical" for the LPT.
Having done a bit of archive searching, it sounds like the classic beginning of a DI failure. We replaced the DI five years ago at approximately 120k (preemptively before a cross-country trip), but thought this must be the problem, so we swapped in our spare DI (used). The car exhibits the same problem, unfortunately.
Thus, while perhaps not conclusive, the DI seems like less of a sure bet. We replaced the fuel pump somewhere around 125k, and is not making excess noise, plus the car accelerates well in lower gears.
We would welcome any thoughts for what the culprit might be, or for another lead to investigate!
Thanks,
Tim
