A new DI cassette fixes the stumble - 97 Aero Posted by John Fitzgerald [Email] (#77) [Profile/Gallery] (more from John Fitzgerald) on Wed, 7 Sep 2011 08:47:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Had a bit of stumbling, especially when accelerating a fully loaded [five pax, plus stuff in the trunk] car between 1800-2100 rpm. Especially uphill ... didn't want to rev well until above 2500 rpm.
BPC seemed fine, plugs seemed ok ... swapped DI cassette and voila.
Bought a Swedish aftermarket cassette [made in Taiwan] from Autohaus AZ for $173. Sorry, eEuroparts, your $450 pricetag made it worth the gamble. If it dies after less than 30,000 miles, oh well. Couldn't spare the extra $$ right now.
I did put in new plugs as long I everything was out - usually change them at 12,000 mi [yeah, too soon for some folks, but it's cheap, easy, and 'maybe' keeps the DI cassette running longer]. The previous two DI's ran for 60,000 and 90,000 miles without a problem. First hints at failures seems to be the slight hesitation/stumbling and [sometimes] a loss of the plug burn-off feature when shutting the car down [the buzzing you hear for a few seconds right after switching the engine off, although it needs to run for xxx minutes to enable it ... idk how long, but most drives around here are >> 15 minutes to anywhere].
By the way, if anyone is desperate for a used, 'lightly stumbling' oem DI cassette, let me know. I'll hold onto it and the packing for a few days - if someone wants it, they can have it for UPS ground shipping from 53105. Otherwise its going out with the trash.
