If replacing radio, is code in the removable keypad? Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Sun, 9 Oct 2011 14:16:29 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The radio section of my '97 CSE has been cutting out more frequently, at this point it mostly gets no radio reception on AM, FM, or weather band. Cassette deck and CD player work fine. When radio reception cuts out there is no static, no sound at all unless you play a tape or disc, and the tuner will not scan.
I checked connections at the antenna and back of the radio and they seem OK, no corrosion or looseness. Also tried plugging in a length of wire directly into the radio antenna jack to act as an antenna with the same result.
Assuming the problem is in the RF section of the head unit I figure the path of least resistance will be to install a working used factory radio. (Also I mostly listen to cassette tapes and new cassette players are pretty much unavailable at this point.)
If I plug the security keypad from my radio into another one, does my security code travel with it? Or is the code resident in the main part of the radio?
