Ever since the plastic tanks were introduced in around 1990.
That's the biggest killer of the radiators nowadays on the Saab's (and all other cars too) since radiator hardly ever clog up anymore.
The plastic composition cannot take heat and age so the plastic start to deteriorate at the hot side which is usually the upper radiator hose attachment.
The rubber seal between tank and radiator core start to leak and then suddenly, the tank blows wide open or the hose attachment breaks clean off.
You can actually take the plastic plastic pieces and crumble them between your fingers like dry cookies.
