Hi all,
Been driving for a few months with the TD04 Mitsubishi turbocharger and man trans from the Aero model. Did a drivetain swap from the automatic car.
So a couple days ago I put another piece into the 1997 CSE. At a swap meet I picked up an ecu part number 47 818 94. Supposedly it was a new in box leftover, the box label is TRIONIC B234R 98-. Looks new and shiny, so it might not ever have been used. Perfect, the correct ECU for the car.
So I disconnected battery lead, removed 'aquarium' cover, and swapped out the ECU.
Double checked the resistances on the BPC valve for peace of mind sake (~3 ohms each coil) and the 3 wire connector from the ECU transistor outputs (outside leads each to ground - in the megohm range. All good. Starts and runs fine.
Except for one thing! After driving for about two minutes, the CHECK ENGINE lamp illuminates!! Big Sigh.
Well the car runs fine and the proper ECU allows the engine, turbo and right foot pedal do what it should-boost higher and make the driver grin.
Later, when I visited autozone to get the code scanned, the only one that came up was PO455. This corresponds to a problem in the evap system? The person at AZ says they can't reset any codes (not allowed) but make sure gas cap is tight and ask if I recenty filled up with gas.
Well, I was fairly sure the CEL was because I swapped ECU's (duh) but can't figure out why this CEL is steady on after days and miles, whilst the original 1997 CSE AUTO ecu was happy with the evap system. Is the 98 model EVAP system different than previous year, or is the ECU calibration a little more stringent? She passed the annual registration check, which I am quite sure the 225 hp ecu currently installed will not be able to pass.
Besides swapping ECUs each year to get the registration, any ideas?
