Replaced ignition switch, slight problem though

I just replaced the ignition switch this morning. I timed myself- 37 minutes, including tightening up the adjustable steering column.

One problem though... with the old ignition switch, when I took the key out of the ignition, and opened the drivers door... the door chime would not sound. You know, the beep beep beep thing that reminds you to take your keys out.

Well now even if I have the keys out, when I open the drivers door, the door chime sounds. Its not supposed to do that, right?

I'm guessing this is related to that tiny plastic pole that sits in the place where the key slides in. I bought the Scantech ignition cylinder because the Saab one wasn't available (might not be now even).

As long as this won't run down the battery, I can just leave it like this right?
