Just thought I would pass on something I did when I bought my car that I believe has extended the life of the auto trans. I bought my 94 9000CS non-turbo with 48,000 miles on it a number of years ago. At that time I installed an engine oil cooler, and ATF cooler from a junkyard turbo car. The non-turbos did not have these.
I also added an auxiliary spin on oil filter for the ATF. I mounted this just behind the radiator on top of the radiator support rail. I use a Bosch Distance Plus oil filter. Obviously I had to run new transmission oil hose lines. I reused the Saab fittings and purchased transmission oil hose at my local parts store. I put two hose clamps on each barb.
It has worked very, very well. The car has 120,000 miles on it and the transmission shifts perfectly. Also, the fluid when changed (every 25,000 miles) is perfectly clean.
On a turbo car I think you would have to relocate the auxilary oil filter to a different location than I used, as I think it will be too close to the turbo.
