Just got done with the heater core and blower motor and I have to say that this job was much easier than what I had been fearing for years. The HVAC setup with the access to the major system components from under the cowl is actually very logical from a repair standpoint. No dash and entire system to pull like on some cars.
My a/c was empty of refrigerant so I pulled the evaporator case out and this allowed me to remove the recirc door to clean off the rotted foam. There was also rotted foam removed from the metal panel inside the blower housing. Carb cleaner and a scraper removed the old adhesive easily, then I washed the parts with soap and water. I did not remove the false bulkhead entirely as I found unclipping the ABS relay box provided additional room to slide the panel aside.
However, I am surprised that there are no rattles or whistles caused by what looks to me a system that needs better mounting, especially the "clip in" blower assembly.
Now on to the CV boot, water pump and rear brakes (original rear rotors btw)...1995 9000 CS
