From straight mineral oil to 100% synthetic is just a matter of mineral oil concentration and cost. 10W-30 has viscosity improvers derived from synthetic compounds, and anything up to 100% synthetic has mineral oil in it. Calling an oil "synthetic" is a matter of degree. Take your pick.
Some engines with high blow-by, like 1999+ Saabs, benefit from oils with high concentrations of synthetic compounds because there is less mineral oil to combine with the water from combustion gases, to form sludge. Otherwise the older Saab engines do not benefit much from using higher concentration synthetics, unless you are going for record length oil change intervals.
