If you are talking about the US bulb types, the 9004, 9005, etc., with the big, grey plastic plugs, I have found that they do tend to last almost exactly the same number of hours. I always bought them in pairs for my 1990 C900, and 1991 Volvo 744 as no sooner did one burn out, than the other did. This was especially bad on the Volvo for some reason. My 1995 Volvo 945 does not have this same problem (watch - they'll both pop when I get home tonight...).
So, they were probably replaced at the same time, and therefore, it is expected that they'd burn out at the same time.
