94 Aero Clarion aftermarket replacement

Howdy all, and happy holidays!
My ultra-cheapo 94 Aero came with a locked-out Clarion unit (can't find the code and it isn't original to the car).
So, planned to install the Alpine CDA-9883 unit I had in a BMW a few years ago, complete with the Crutchfield-sourced harness adapter and a PAC OEM-2 preamp converter.
This was a literal plug-n-play proposition in the BMW, but after removing the head unit and the cage I didn't immediately find the harness connector for the Saab. To be clear, I've got a NEW connector from Crutchfield, supposedly the correct one for the 94 -- not trying to use the BMW connector of course.
So, has anyone been through this drill with the Crutchfield adapter into a Clarion system? How to I get to the connector I need to tie into the Saab harness?
Or, am I tilting at windmills here and should just punt and find someone with a good Clarion head unit -- with code -- and stick that sucker in there instead?
Thanks as always!
