Keep both sets as long as they're true Posted by John Fitzgerald [Email] (#77) [Profile/Gallery] (more from John Fitzgerald) on Fri, 4 Jan 2013 12:00:55 In Reply to: What wheels to keep- Aero or 98 CSE?, Vicsaero95, Fri, 4 Jan 2013 05:43:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'll second Ed's motion. I have two sets of Aero wheels for the 97 Aero; summer and winter. Used to do the steel wheels, they just look bad. For a few years, I paid for the spring/fall mounting [the re-balancing is a nice side benefit of this] but the cost & hassle factor, vs me swapping them out [and taking the time to get a good look at the pads, rotors, cv boots, etc] = finally bought another set of used Aero wheels.
Although I now have a second 9000, the 98 CSE has summer tires on the alloys and nice winter tires on the old Saab steel wheels. With the full sized-plastic wheel cover, not as bad, but still not as nice as the alloys.
BTW, the side by side winter tire comparison between my 9000's is quite dramatic on the noise level. Blizzaks, two seasons old, are VERY noisy compared to the same age & tread depth [10-11 mm] on General Artic AltiMax [made in Germany ... didn't know that]. Same roads, especially noticeable on smooth pavement. I'll need to recall this next time I'm on Tire Rack, shopping.
best of luck,
John
