My 89 pedal used to get very stiff after 2-3hrs highway in fifth in hot weather. PO had done an incomplete auto to manual swap(which is another story). I never got inside that clutch but I changed the master and flex line which didn't help much. Good news was it lasted the 70k that I had the car and was still ok at 256k when I junked it for rust. My 88 clutch was very light after I went through it.
I would agree that it might be a pressure plate issue. Fingers expanding and binding maybe?
