When the Goofy Clutch hydraulics fail. Not that rare an event in our Saabs.
With an 'functioning' clutch? rarely and only to retain what little skills remain.
Although it is unarguably easier on the clutch and synchros... to not use them :-) Ugly damaging noises when one misses though.
Years ago, early 70's, I had an Austin Westminter. Essentially a 4 door sedan Austin Healy (3 litre 6 cyl) With the added mod cons of a Leather and wood interior, power brakes and steering.
Quite a nice car actually, albeit a bit goofy of appearance.
It had an Overdrive unit with a sprague drive. Meaning that, like a bicycle, when power was not being transmitted, one could shift gears.. up or down.. at will, all 8 of them.
One did have to use the clutch from a standstill though.
Confused the hell out of those who chose to borrow/drive the thing.
Once ran the thing to Nevada ~2000 rpm at 85mph most all day long.
Sold it at 200k with original clutch still healthy.
