Four short fat sheet metal screws, maybe?

I looked at mine, no signs of coming loose. They seem to be spot welded to the inner tin shell of the hood, and there's enough depth there before you hit the actual skin that you could drill four holes and attach the bracket, at least temporarily, with beefy sheet metal screws or small lag screws.
Need to make sure they're short enough not to bump into hood skin from below. And the heads can't interfere with the bolted-on hinge arm.
Get a helper, somewhere to work, and an old piece of rug or bedspread to lay the hood on. Then take it off the car to do the work. If you do have a wire welder, you still might want to screw it down first to hold it in place.
I personally can't see even the strongest magnet holding this at all. Have a go for kicks though.
