PSA: Lube the brake pedal pivot Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 19 Feb 2013 07:36:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Over the weekend I went to a local daytime event (monthly jazz jam session) and parked my car on the street at the tail end of a line of other parked cars and exited forward, in the direction of the coffee house. Came out a few hours later to find that the battery was completely dead due to the brake lights having been stuck "on" - the lights were still faintly illuminated, and the brake pedal was slightly hung up about a half-inch below its normal resting position, just triggering the switch.
After getting a jump, I got the car back home and connected the battery to my battery charger and sprayed some white grease in the brake pedal pivot and connection yoke; the pedal now seems to return more positively, turning off the switch. This mechanism is very easy to get to if you contort yourself properly - don't even have to remove the fuzzy under dash panel.
Now I have to wonder what I did to the two-year-old battery by draining it so low.....
