My guesses:
1. The leak is slow and continuous, not intermittent, but not obvious unless the turbo is working hard or has been working hard recently.
2. Both the puff of white smoke and visible leak of coolant near (from?) the turbo point to the turbo as showing its age. Coolant continues to flow through a hot turbo after the load is removed, so you might see the coolant drip for a while but stop after the turbo has cooled.
I wouldn't worry, but I would exercise the turbo and then look for the source of the leak. Beware hot surfaces as you look.
Keep topping off with coolant until you pinpoint the leak's source. If it is the turbo, then perhaps it is going south slowly. That gives you time to plan. I hope I'm wrong and the actual fix will be cheaper and easier.
