Kudos to Barry for posting about the model 524N lock actuator made by Directed Electronics Inc. and available for $13~14 at the web site named for a river in Brazil.
The 524N works like a charm! I connected one the same way Barry did, with one of the screws supplied with the 524N at the back (closest to the lock mechanism) and a zip tie at the front. Barry posted a youtube video that shows how he attached it, linked below. Thanks Barry!
Electrically there is nothing to splice. I connected the 524N's blue wire where the Saab actuator's blue wire was connected, and the 524N's green wire where the Saab actuator's brown/white wire was connected.
90 minutes from start to finish, and most of that was spent removing and reinstalling the door panel (right rear door). I'll never go back to the Saab lock actuator.
