I agree Bill that a warranty is nice to have, but the quality of the reman parts I've been seeing aren't worth the box they come in. And I'm seeing that just because something has a warranty doesn't mean that you're not going to have to do the job again, it just means that you can take it back and get another poorly-made part.
Some remans are better than others, and not to name names, but the Autozone/O'Reilly/Advance parts seem inferior to the higher-priced NAPA parts, but it's still a crap-shoot.
I had my OEM PS pump go out at 165K and I bought one from a junkyard and stuck it on. It's one of the easier items to put on IMO, but if the job was too big...water pump, Power Steering Rack, I'd go with a new OEM part just to hedge my bets.
My brother worked at a rubber plant back in the 80s and the runs of replacement parts they were building didn't have to hold up to the same quality tests as the runs of new-car build parts they made. The motor mounts could break at about 1/2 the stress of a new-car part and still pass. The thought was that if an item wears out on a car, the replacement won't have to last as long.
