This sounds like a case of the head gasket breakdown between the coolant passage(s) and the edge of the cylinder head, rather than between the coolant and oil passages.
This board has many mixed inputs about using head gasket sealants or not.
I've had a 9000 and a 900 that have needed HG replacements. Did them both myself - lots of work - too much in my opinion to do over a weekend but it IS do-able with a few VERY long days. It goes more smoothly without the time pressure, especially if you haven't done the job before.
In any case, it's likely to get worse over time. You could try retorquing the head bolts. There's a procedure and an order that you have to loosen and retorque the head bolts that is VERY critical. Proper tools are critical as well.
