Hi Mike,
Similar situation with respect to recent acquisition of an Aero, not many 9000's out there in general anymore at least around here (North of Boston area).
I own a '94 Aero with 305K miles, but has significant amount of rust on the rear underside, the body actually is in pretty good condition except for some minor rust on the the fender wheel well (under the edge trim) and the interior is still in very good condition. The crutch started slipping under heavy acceleration in 5th a few months ago. Everything else works good including the A/C.
It has been a very reliable car.
I love the car and was debating fixing it, until I came across a '97 Aero Standard with practically no rust at a decent price.
So I bought it and have been fixing it up since then and still driving the '94 which I plan to keep doing for the rest of the winter, then use as a parts car in the Spring when I roll out the new to me '97 Aero (155K miles, a youngster)
What I have fixed so far on the '97 Aero:
1) All bottom motor mounts replaced
2) Flex muffler replaced and Catalytic converter support bracket replaced, the rest of the exhaust is Stainless.
3) Crankshaft front oil seal
4) Oil pump seal
5) Serpentine belt and idlers
6) Valve cover gasket
7) Water pump (was ok but since I was in there decided to replace it)
8) Passenger side outer CV Boot
9) Sew the driver side seat bottom, was not ripped, but a seam had become loose
10) Front disk and pads
11) repaired passenger side surface rust at the top of the rear shock mount. Important to get it fix early before it gets serious
So the '97 is ready to hit the road if the '94 does not make it through the winter due to the worn clutch ( I drive it easy so not to slip the clutch)
Left to do:
1)Drivers seat front does not move up or down, has clicking sound like yours. I have not looked into it but it should be an easy fix.
2) I have a high idle issue that I have been chasing.
I expect with regular maintenance to easily reach 300K on the '97 aero.
Can not wait to get it on the road come Spring time.....
