Anders, you can't buy the clone with older software card. They only come with card programmed for late model SAAB(V 148.000).
JimO,
You will have to buy a spare GM tech2 card (generic PCMCIA card will not work because the memory is not flashed the same...) then you have to program it from SAAB TIS online (subscription fee or one-time-use fee). So factor in the additional costs when your buying your Tech 2 clone to use on any SAAB older than 1998.
Just went through all this mess last year when we purchased a clone as a back-up unit.
I should mention too, that the first clone crashed after about 8 months of use. The screen started freezing during spare part programming and data stream monitoring. VERY frustrating.
Also, as Anders had mentioned before; the clone Tech2s reset when cranking the engine to start. Where as the original GM tech2s will stay powered up. ...I think this can be by-passed by hooking up the external power cord directly to the battery via the alligator-clips (come with the clone kit), but I have yet to try that.
