What is wearing out my strut? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Sun, 23 Feb 2014 20:13:36 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have yet another worn out front right strut - as per the link, I had a feeling that this was coming, as the force to compress the suspension on the front right side seems to be significantly less than the front left side. the right strut is now making intermittent noise, seems to be temperature dependent. A few years ago I replaced the original strut on that side with a Sachs unit and SKF strut bearing because of collision damage (left the other side alone, but eventually replaced that too). The Sachs unit failed and was replaced with a Bilstein touring part - failed in about a year. Replaced it about a year ago with another Sachs unit (new strut bearing too), which now seems to be on its way out.
Are all three of these parts pieces of junk? It's not like I'm buying cut rate parts here. Or is there something that I'm missing?

Do springs wear out without sagging?
